REPORT: Bears signing veteran kicker

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Kicker Cairo Santos kicked for the Chicago Bears in 2017, but a groin injury ended that stint early on, with Santos going 1-for-2 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points before being placed on injured reserve. Now, the Bears are reportedly adding Santos to the mix in order to provide incumbent starting kicker Eddy Pineiro with some competition.

Santos is most remembered for his 2014-17 tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs and is also known for winning the coveted Lou Groza Award while a college kicker at Tulane. The 28-year-old kicked in five games for the Tennessee Titans last season. He is expected to join the Bears upon clearing COVID-19 protocol.

UPDATE: According to Dan Wiederer of the Chicago Tribune, Pineiro is apparently dealing with a groin injury that the Bears are keeping tabs on. Pieneiro did not make any kicks of any kind in Saturday's scrimmage. That likely explains the Santos signing.
