Selected by the Florida Marlins in the 42nd round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft out of Evergreen Park (Ill.) High School ... scouted by Scot Engler ... signed Aug. 19, 2003 ... spent his first professional season with the Gulf Coast League Marlins, hitting .207 with 27 RBIs, four doubles, 24 walks and 21 runs in 49 games ... hit .378 in 11 games with the GCL in 2005 before suffering a right knee sprain in July ... batted .263 in 14 games between the GCL and Class A Greensboro in 2006 ... missed over a month of the season with a right hand fracture ... traded to the Cubs on Sept. 14, 2006 to complete RHP Todd Wellemeyer deal, March 28, 2006 ... combined to bat .279 with 56 runs, 19 doubles, two homers and 49 RBIs in 119 games between Class A Peoria and Class A Advanced Daytona in 2007 ... a mid-season and post-season All-Star in 2008, he led Daytona in hits (133), walks (63), runs (81) and steals (26) ... with Double-A Tennessee in 2009, hit .300 (140-for-467) with 63 runs, 35 stolen bases, 21 doubles, four triples, four homers and 51 RBIs in a career-high 131 games ... in 2010, his first full season at Triple-A, hit .248 in 114 games for Iowa ... his 23 stolen bases led the club ... sidelined with a skull contusion, July 21-August 3.
