Roster Moves: Bears sign four players, waive three

The Chicago Bears have been busy bolstering their roster with new talent, and on Monday, they announced the signing of four players who went through the rookie mini-camp tryout over the weekend.

The four new signings include Houston edge rusher D'Anthony Jones, Notre Dame offensive lineman Josh Lugg, Louisiana safety Bralen Trahan, and veteran tight end Stephen Carlson.

Jones is an explosive edge rusher who has the ability to get to the quarterback quickly.

Last season in 13 games, Jones had 8 sacks and five forced fumbles which tied for most in the nation.

Lugg is a versatile lineman who can play both guard and tackle positions.

He was a four-starter for the Irish and helped them average 31.8 points per game last season.

Trahan is a hard-hitting safety who has experience playing both strong and free safety positions.

For his career, he had 214 tackles, 6.5 tackles-for-loss, 13 interceptions, 16 pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries.

Carlson, the veteran of the group, brings experience and leadership to the tight-end position.

For his young NFL career, he has caught six passes for 62 yards and one touchdown. He spent the entire 2021 season on injured reserve with a torn ACL.

The Bears waived three undrafted rookies in Oklahoma safety Justin Broiles, Stony Brook tight end Damien Caffrey, and Cal-Davis offensive lineman Nick Amoah to make room for the new signings.

While it's always tough to see young players go, the Bears are focused on building a roster that can compete at the highest level.

Overall, the Bears' mini-camp tryout proved to be a success, as they were able to identify several talented players to keep.
