Cubs announce several roster moves |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher left-handed pitcher Riley Martin from Triple-A Iowa, infielder Pedro Ramirez from Double-A Knoxville and infielder James Triantos from Triple-A Iowa. Additionally, left-handed pitcher Shota Imanaga accepted his 2026 qualifying offer contract and signed a one-year contract. The 40-man roster now stands at 32 players.
Martin, 27, has spent the last three seasons with Iowa and went 6-2 with a 2.69 ERA (19 ER/63.2 IP) in 46 relief appearances and one start in 2025. For his career with Iowa that began in 2023, he is 11-7 with a 3.89 ERA (59 ER/136.1 IP) in 103 relief appearances and one start. Birdsell completed his fifth professional season in 2025 and was originally selected by the Cubs in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft out of Quincy University and is a native of Salem, Ill. Ramirez, 21, completed his fifth professional season in 2025 and spent the entire year with Double-A Knoxville. He hit a team-high .280 (140-for-500) with eight home runs and 73 RBI in a team-leading 129 games for the Smokies last season. His batting average ranked sixth in the Southern League in 2025. Over his minor league career, Ramirez is hitting .291 with 25 home runs and 220 RBI across 452 minor league games. The native of Temblador, Venezuela was originally signed by the Cubs on Jan. 15, 2021. Triantos, 22, played 102 games last season with the I-Cubs and hit .258 (105-for-407) with seven home runs and 43 RBI. It was his first full season with Iowa as he split 2024 between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee. In his five professional seasons with the Cubs, he is hitting .282 495-for-1757) with 31 home runs and 216 RBI. He was originally selected by the Cubs in the second round of the 2021 MLB Draft and is a native of Fairfax, Va.
