Report: Cubs unlikely to re-sign Cody Bellinger

The season is over for the Chicago Cubs, and now it is time to tweak the roster for the upcoming 2024 season.

One player that was key this season was 2019 MVP Cody Bellinger, as he hit .307 with 26 homers, 97 RBIs, and 20 stolen bases in only 130 games.

However, it appears that the Cubs won't retain Bellinger, as he will be a free agent this winter and he will demand a massive contract from teams, and rightfully so.

Cubs insider David Kaplan is reporting that the Cubs will likely go with youngster Pete Crow-Armstrong (No. 12 overall prospect) in center field.

"I keep hearing and I heard from someone tonight, they're probably not going to get Bellinger re-signed," Kaplan said. "The person I talked to tonight said, 'We've already got a center fielder: Pete Crow-Armstrong.' He still hasn't gotten his first career hit, but I like him. He's a good prospect. I said, 'Who's your first baseman?' 'It's a first baseman, it doesn't matter."

This is tough for Cubs fans if they lose Bellinger to free agency to another team, but obviously, the Cubs can build around PCA and spend their money on other parts of their roster that can use an upgrade.
