Bears announce several roster moves

The Chicago Bears on Saturday announced that the club has placed linebacker Tremaine Edmunds and running back Roschon Johnson on Reserve/Injured and signed running back Brittain Brown and linebacker Carl Jones Jr. to the active roster.

Chicago has also elevated tight end Nikola Kalinic and offensive lineman Jordan McFadden from the practice squad for Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Per NFL regulation, all standard elevations revert back to the practice squad following the game.

Additionally, defensive back Kyler Gordon (Calf) and defensive back Jaylon Johnson (Groin) have been downgraded to OUT and remain on Reserve/Injured; Designated for Return.

Brown has spent each of the first 12 weeks of the season on Chicago's practice squad. Brown, who initially joined the Bears during training camp, has appeared in seven career NFL games, six as a rookie with the Las Vegas Raiders (2022) and made his Bears debut in Chicago's Week 9 win over Cincinnati, tallying 37 yards on five carries (7.4 yards per att.), including a 22-yard touchdown. Entering the league as a seventh-round selection (250th overall) by Las Vegas in 2022, Brown spent the majority of last season on the practice squad of the Seattle Seahawks (2024). A native of Canton, Ga., Brown prepped collegiately at Duke (2017-19) and UCLA (2020-21), totaling 42 games played, rushing for 2,284 net yards on 406 carries (5.6 avg.) with 21 rushing touchdowns, as well as 41 receptions for 431 yards (10.5 avg.) and two receiving scores over his five seasons of action.

Jones Jr. is in his second season with the Bears, appearing in seven games this season for Chicago. Jones has totaled 10 special teams tackles this season for Chicago, third-most by any member of the Bears. Joining the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2024, Jones spent the entirety of the 2024 season on the practice squad, appearing in one game for the Bears. Jones made his NFL debut in Chicago's Week 10 matchup against New England last season. Jones appeared in a program-record 57 career games at UCLA (2019-23), including all 26 outings for the Bruins over his final two seasons. Jones totaled 135 career tackles over his tenure with the Bruins, including eight sacks, as well as an interception in 2022 to go along with one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. A native of Bakersfield, Calif., Jones set the school record with his 57 career games played following his contributions in UCLA's win over Boise State in the 2023 LA Bowl.

Kalinic has spent each of the first 12 weeks of the season on the Bears' practice squad. Signed prior to the start of the regular season, Kalinic has appeared in nine career NFL games for the Indianapolis Colts (2022) and Los Angeles Rams (2024), seven of which occurred as a member of the Colts, logging two starts at tight end. Prior to joining Chicago's practice squad, Kalinic spent the 2025 offseason with the Atlanta Falcons after two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams (2023-24). Prior to the NFL, Kalinic played three seasons for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL, appearing in 30 games and helping Hamilton appear in back-to-back Grey Cups. Kalinic prepped at York University in Toronto (2015-18), totaling 39 career receptions for 439 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

McFadden has spent the entirety of the regular season on Chicago's practice squad. Initially joining the Bears after being claimed via waivers in the offseason prior to the 2025 season, McFadden arrived in Chicago after spending the previous two seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Chargers (2023-24), appearing in 13 career games for Los Angeles, including two starts at left guard. A native of Spartanburg, S.C., McFadden played five seasons at Clemson (2018-22), appearing in 56 career games for the Tigers. McFadden logged 2,960 career snaps from scrimmage over his career at Clemson, the third-most by any offensive tackle, and the seventh-most by any player, regardless of position, in program history. A two-time All-ACC honoree, McFadden started each of his final 39 games played for the Tigers.
