Bears activate starting offensive lineman off PUP list

CHICAGO — In desperate need of offensive line help following a dismal blocking performance in Saturday's 41-15 loss to the Buffalo Bills, the Chicago Bears received a boost with offensive tackle Germain Ifedi getting activated off the PUP (physically unable to perform) list on Monday. Ifedi is eligible to resume practicing on Monday and could suit up for the Bears in their preseason finale on Saturday, when the Bears will take on the Tennessee Titans in Nashville, Tennessee. The opening kickoff at Nissan Stadium is scheduled for 6 p.m. CDT.

The Bills' pass rush wreaked havoc at Soldier Field over the weekend, with Bears quarterbacks Andy Dalton and Justin Fields facing seemingly constant pressure. With rookie offensive tackle Teven Jenkins already out for an extended period of time due to back surgery, Ifedi's return to action from a hip injury could be a significant boon for the Bears. Ifedi was placed on the PUP list with a hip flexor in late July and will be practicing on Monday for the first time in this season's training camp. He was injured in pre-training camp conditioning drills.

Ifedi joined the Bears in 2020 after playing the previous four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. He started all 16 regular season games for the Bears last season, making 10 starts at right guard and six starts at right tackle. This year, Ifedi, who re-signed with the Bears in the offseason, is penciled in as the Bears' starting right tackle, and he is one of two Bears offensive tackles who could see in-game action for the first time this preseason on Saturday, as recent signee Jason Peters is likely to make his Bears debut.
