This is not good news to report.

Chicago Bears starting running back David Montgomery suffered a non-contact injury during Wednesday's practice and had to be carted off the field.

The Chicago Sun-Times had the following information on how the injury happened.

"The Bears worked on run plays against no defense when Montgomery took a handoff, ran to the left and appeared to slip on the grass," they reported. "He tried to get up and fell again, then was unable to put weight on his left leg."

Head coach Matt Nagy said during his media session that Montgomery has a groin strain and does not know the severity.

Montgomery had 242 rushes for 889 yards and six touchdowns last season.
