Georgia standout DL Jalen Carter will make second visit to Bears |
The Chicago Bears are continuing to show interest in Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter, as he will make his second visit to the team on Monday, according to ESPN.
Carter, who has already visited the Philadelphia Eagles, is being touted as a top 10 draft pick by his agent Drew Rosenhaus. “I’m confident Jalen will go in the top 10,” Rosenhaus said via ESPN's Adam Schefter. “He’s a good person, a family man, loves football and is a generational talent.” With Carter declining visit requests from teams outside the top 10 picks, the Bears are among a select few teams that have had the chance to meet with him in person. The fact that he is visiting Chicago for a second time indicates that the Bears are serious about considering him for their first-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. The Bears attended Carter's Pro Day and met with the young defender to gather more information on him regarding his off-the-field character concerns. “We aren’t really there yet. Like the combine, it’s a collection of information," Poles said of Carter in March. "We got some there. We got more at the pro day. We’ll bring him, talk to him and get to know him even better. Some point in mid-April, we’ll sit down and see how we want to handle it.” At 6'3" and 305 pounds, Carter has the ideal size and strength to be a dominant force on the defensive line. He is quick off the snap and has the agility to penetrate the line and make plays in the backfield. He is also a solid run defender, with the ability to clog up running lanes and force ball carriers to alter their path. In 2022, he had 32 tackles with three sacks and two forced fumbles.
But what really sets Carter apart is his versatility. He has played both defensive end and defensive tackle, and has excelled at both positions. His athleticism and skill set make him a valuable asset for any team looking to bolster their defensive line.
Carter has been invited to attend the NFL Draft later this month in Kansas City, a clear indication that he is expected to be one of the top picks in this year's draft. It remains to be seen whether the Bears will select him with their first-round pick, but the fact that they have shown interest in him with two visits speaks volumes about his potential to make an impact at the next level.
