Report: Jaylon Johnson requests trade from Bears

by - Senior Editor -

A standout Bears defender is now on the trade block.

Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade on Tuesday morning, according to multiple reports, including ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

"Bears corner Jaylon Johnson has requested a trade, per source," Fowler tweeted. "Chicago granted permission to search for a new home before today’s trade deadline. The player and team negotiated a new contract last week but couldn’t come close to a deal. So, a talented corner is now available."

Johnson has played well this season with two interceptions, four pass deflections, a 37.3 passer rating allowed, and an 84.4 PFF grade (T3rd among all cornerbacks).

"We’re in a phase where we want to retain homegrown talent," Ryan Poles said on ESPN 1000 on Sunday about Johnson. "That’s important. But again, it takes two sides to make something happen, so we’ll see if that works out."

The trade deadline is 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, and it appears that the standout 24-year-old might have already played his last game with the Monsters of the Midway.
