Roster Moves: Bears sign two draft picks Gervon Dexter, Tyrique Stevenson |
After wrapping up their mandatory minicamp, the Chicago Bears can head into their offseason break with the assurance that all 10 of their rookie draft picks are now under contract. The final two unsigned members of the Bears' 2023 draft class, Gervon Dexter Sr. and Tyrique Stevenson, both inked four-year deals on Thursday.
This news solidifies the team's commitment to developing their young talent and sets a positive tone as they prepare for the upcoming season. Gervon Dexter Sr., a defensive tackle from the University of Florida, has been making waves during the team's offseason practices. "He's really learning how to take off," said coach Matt Eberflus. "At Florida, he was more of a two-gap guy, so he was more square, moving with the offensive linemen, not moving off the ball in a takeoff position. He's working on that. We elongated his stance a little bit to help him do that and we moved him around a little bit. He's playing the nose, he's playing the three. "What I like most about him is his hustle. Man, he hustles. He's got his track shoes on and he is running out there, which is great to see from a guy who's 308, something like that, 6-foot-5." The signing of Tyrique Stevenson, a cornerback from the University of Miami, further solidifies the Bears' commitment to bolstering their defense through the draft. Stevenson brings a wealth of talent and versatility to the secondary, and his addition will undoubtedly create healthy competition among the team's defensive backs. "We love where he is in terms of his length, his competitiveness and we know he tackles," Eberflus said. "We know he likes to hit. That's why he's here. Corners need to tackle. They need to really be a physical force out there and he's going to do that, and we're excited about that." With a solid draft class now fully signed, the Chicago Bears are poised to continue their progress and strive for success in the 2023 season.
