Bears linked to potential quarterback trade

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears told the media at the 2020 NFL Combine that they were committed to starting quarterback Mitch Trubisky for the future. Usually, when a team comes out publicly with a statement like that, they are just waiting patiently until they can find a replacement or at least more competition.

ESPN is reporting that the Bears are going to pursue a veteran quarterback with starting experience in free agency.

NFL analyst Jeremy Fowler believes that the team will make a quarterback trade, and it might be for veteran signal-caller Andy Dalton.

"The Bears have $25,197,387 of space entering March, according to ESPN's Roster Management System, but they can gain more with contract restructures or player releases. Dalton currently holds a $17.7 million cap hit on the Bengals' books. Cincinnati might be able to eat some of that money to facilitate a deal," ESPN reports.

Dalton threw for 3,138 yards, 17 touchdowns, and ten interceptions last season.

That isn't the best stats in the world, but it certainly could give some good competition for Trubisky in 2020.

The Bengals have already publicly said that they will help Dalton find his next home via trade as they are likely to take quarterback Joe Burrow with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Other teams reportedly that might have an interest in Dalton include the Colts and Patriots.

There will likely be a surplus of veteran quarterbacks on the market for the Bears and other teams to choose from, including Tom Brady, Phillip Rivers, Marcus Mariota, Case Keenum, and others.
