Bears News: Caleb Williams wants a chance to face Aaron Rodgers in crucial game |
CHICAGO - This season is quite different through the first 10 games compared to how it was during quarterback Caleb Williams’s rookie season.
Chicago is in control of their own destiny as they are first in the NFC North after finding ways to win in a lot of thrilling ways this season. “We’re bought in. We believe and (we) got all the guys that we need. We got everybody. We just have to go out there and execute for the whole game, all 60 minutes. We’re in such a unique position because (we) got all the guys,” Williams said. “We got all the coaches and you don’t want to waste these opportunities in these weeks (because) you only got 17 that are promised and so, just being able for us, being able to focus and maximize what we have and where we’re at and start really affecting the game positively throughout the whole game as all three phases are connecting and gelling and meshing. We’d rather do that rather than have somebody show up or one side of the ball show up or two sides of the ball show up at the end of the game and have to really nut up or shut up and so, we want to be able to focus on all 60 minutes and start doing (what) we’re capable of on all three sides of the ball to be honest.” The bye week came at a good time for Chicago, giving them a chance to reevaluate their team, especially on offense. Since the bye week, they have gotten 149.3 yards per game on designed runs and 290 yards before contact per Next Gen Stats. Both of those ranks first in the league since coming off the bye week. Pittsburgh has allowed over 100 rushing yards in each of the past two games, so this is something the Bears might be able to exploit in this matchup. However, this is an aggressive defense that has been getting after opposing quarterbacks all season. “They got some vets and then they also have some real vets that are playmakers and they just have playmakers on that side of the ball,” Williams said. “You see why they’ve been where they’ve been for the past I don’t know how many years and why they haven’t really had a losing season in a bunch of years and things like that. So, it’s a great challenge for us. We’re excited to go out there and compete against them and be able to show who we are.” This game has the potential to be incredibly important in determining whether Chicago makes the playoffs. According to ESPN Analytics, the Bears will have a 68% chance of making the playoffs with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, with a loss, their playoff chances would drop to 46 percent. Who better to get a crucial win against that could really help Chicago’s playoff chances than quarterback Aaron Rodgers? The Bears have faced Rodgers many times, from when he played for the Green Bay Packers, and Chicago would love to own him by beating him in this matchup. Williams would also like to face Rodgers, as he wants to face the Steelers when they are at their best. “You always want their best out there and he’s one of the best in the world and he’s been one of the best in the world for however long he’s been in the league,” Williams said. “So, you always want to go versus the best when you play and hopefully get to say, ‘What’s up’ to him, shake his hand after.”
