Vegas Odds: Bears vs Rams

by - Correspondent -

Going against the Los Angeles Rams this coming Sunday (Noon / FOX), according to DraftKings, the Chicago Bears are favored to win by three points with an over / under of 40.5. It is only the second game this season the Bears entered favored to win.

The first game they were favored in was against the Tennessee Titans in the season opener; they won that game 24-17. That was also a home game for Chicago, and when they play the Rams, it will be their first home game since the Titans. Therefore, with home-field advantage on their side, the Bears will win the game, cover the spread, and win by at least four points.

I cannot understand why the over / under for Bears games keeps being above 40 points. The most points they have allowed in a game thus far is 21; that was against the Indianapolis Colts this past Sunday. However, the total for the game has only gone above 40 once - when they played Tennessee. All three games have been under so far this season. Chicago’s defense does not allow opposing teams to put up a lot of points on them, and therefore, this game will be the fourth of the season where the under-hits.

No one expected a 363-yard performance out of rookie quarterback Caleb Williams last week. However, that does not seem to have affected the over / under for his passing yards as that is at 225.5 passing yards. He will hit the over again. The Bears cannot run the ball, and while he may not throw the ball 52 times this week like he did against Indianapolis, Williams will still have to throw the ball a good deal because of the lack of a rushing attack.

Another unexpected thing for the Bears this season - their new running back, D’Andre Swift, is not even averaging two yards per attempt. Nonetheless, the Bears continue to give him the ball, as he has 37 rushing attempts so far this season. His over / under for rushing yards against the Rams is 37.5 yards. He has not had more than that in a game so far this year despite having a 20-yard rush in the season opener. The Pro Bowl running back will probably have a breakout game sooner or later, but I would not bet on that happening this week with a banged-up offensive line with Darnell Wright and Braxton Jones both on the injury report. Therefore, he is under 37.5 rushing yards.

Rookie receiver Rome Odunze showed why he was a top-10 draft pick against the Indianapolis Colts with six receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown. If Williams is throwing the ball a lot ahead, count on him to find Odunze throughout this game too. Since the Chicago offense is finally scoring some offensive touchdowns, the rookie receiver seems like the perfect pick to be on the receiving end of a Caleb Williams passing touchdown. Therefore, if he plays since he is on the injury report with a hip injury, bet on Odunze as an anytime touchdown scorer.

Same Game Parlay

I would do the Bears covering the spread, going with the under, Odunze as an anytime scorer, and Williams throwing for at least 250 passing yards. With a $5 same-game parlay bet on DraftKings, this would have a $305 payout. However, to add to this, receiver DJ Moore has had 10 targets in each of the last two games. It paid off last week against the Colts with 78 receiving yards. I believe he has a similar production to that against the Rams. Therefore, adding Moore having at least 60 receiving yards to the previous parlay to create a five-leg parlay, a $5 bet would have a $605 payout.
