The Chicago Bears are signing veteran running back Darrynton Evans to the practice squad on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.

The Athletic's Kevin Fishbain was the first to report the news.

There was a need for more running back depth for the Bears after they traded away Khalil Herbert for a seventh-round pick right before the trade deadline.

Evans was with the Bears in 2022 and 2023.

Overall, in the NFL, he has 62 carries for 246 yards and a touchdown. He also has 12 catches for 120 yards.

He was a third-round pick by the Titans in 2020.

In other roster news, the Bears are promoting defensive back Ameer Speed from the practice squad to the active roster.

He had three defensive snaps on defense in the win over the Jaguars in London.
