Former Cubs outfielder released by Yankees days before Opening Day

Tough news right before Opening Day.

Rafael Ortega, the journeyman outfielder who spent the past two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, has been released by the New York Yankees just days before the start of the season.

The news was first reported by Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors.

In 2022 with the Cubs in a career-high 118 games, Ortega hit .241 with seven homers and 35 RBIs.

The Yankees picked him, but he didn't make their Opening Day roster and, unfortunately, was cut right before the beginning of the season.

Despite his recent release, it's likely that Ortega will find a new team soon.

With his experience and versatility as an outfielder, he can be a solid addition to any team in need of outfield depth. It will be interesting to see where he lands and what he can contribute in the upcoming season.
