Cubs Corner with Bob Fiorante: Cubs' struggling offense, MLB season predictions, more

by - Staff Writer -

On this edition of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony welcomed American League expert Robert Fiorante to the show to discuss the baseball season's start and more.

As always, this episode is brought to you by Coach’s Bar and Grill, located at 6169 North Northwest Highway on the Northwest Side of Chicago — open for service despite the pandemic.

The conversation began with Anthony and Bob talking about the Cubs’ 4-6 start — which has not been aided by an offense struggling historically. On the flip side, the group also broke down the White Sox’ 5-5 start, despite injuries to Tim Anderson and Eloy Jimenez.

After that, the pair talked about not agreeing with some MLB rules, but more so criticizing the MLB for the issues in watchability due to blackout restrictions placed through MLB.TV. For example, Nationals first basemen Josh Bell missed the beginning of the season and could not watch his own team play because its games were blacked out.

The group then talked about the MLB’s decision to move the 2021 All-Star game out of Atlanta and to Colorado.

The fellows finished up by discussing Fergie Jenkins getting a statue outside of Wrigley Field and then made predictions about which Cubs and White Sox would be next to get statues outside of Wrigley Field or Guaranteed Rate Field.

To close, the boys gave award predictions for the AL MVP, AL ROY, AL CY Young, and AL Manager of the Year as well as NL MVP, NL ROY, NL CY Young, and NL Manager of the Year.

All this and more on the latest episode of the Cubs Corner, available as always on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, and the CubsHQ website.
