The Chicago Cubs have optioned righty starter Eddie Butler to Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday according to multiple reports.

In 2017, Butler was 4-3 with 3.95 ERA with 30 strikeouts and a high 1.43 WHIP. He had been regulated to the bullpen after the Cubs trade for starter Jose Quintana.

The team had to make the roster move because of starter John Lackey's return from the 10-day disabled list from his injured foot. On the season, Lackey has a 5.22 ERA with a high 1.33 WHIP.

The Cubs will have to make another roster move when Kyle Hendricks returns to the team from his rehab starts.
