NFL Draft: Bears move up in a trade to grab Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears made a trade to move up to pick No. 56 to grab Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson in the 2023 NFL Draft on Friday night.

The trade involved the Bears giving the No. 61 pick and No. 135 pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars to move up five spots to the No. 56 selection.

"Super, super, super-aggressive," ESPN's Louis Riddick said during draft coverage. "This guy will absolutely knock you out."

Stevenson was Honorable-Mention All-ACC in 2022 and had two interceptions and seven pass breakups as a starter in the Hurricanes' secondary last season.

According to PFF, Stevenson gave up a 47.2% completion rate in coverage between 2021 and 2022, which was fifth-best in the country.

"You going to get one dog player that's coming," Stevenson said to the media. "An all-out baller who is coming in to make an impact from Day 1."

During the NFL combine, he was impressive with a 4.45 40-yard dash time, 10-foot, 5-inch broad jump, and 38.5-inch vertical jump.

He transferred from Georgia to Miami in 2021.
