ESPN's Stephen A. Smith on Justin Fields and Bears: "It's a bad, bad situation"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears are off to an ugly 0-2 start after a lot of roster turnover that made many think they could be contenders for a playoff spot.

Bears franchise quarterback Justin Fields threw for 211 yards but had two costly interceptions, including a pick-six in the 27-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this past Sunday.

PFF rated him a mediocre 49.1 passing grade for the 16-for-29 passing.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith went off on the Bear organization, believing that they aren't doing Fields any favors in his development as a quarterback.

“I’m tell you what I see in Justin Fields. I see somebody that’s not being developed. I see somebody that’s not growing, and more importantly, I see apathy kicking in if not despondency,” Smith said on First Take on Monday. “He knows what kind of situation he’s in. He doesn’t want to be there, and I don’t blame him one bit.”

“It is a bad, bad situation from the top on down,” Smith continued. “He has no help whatsoever.”
