Report: Georgia OT visited Bears for Top-30 visit

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears are among several NFL teams interested in Georgia offensive tackle Broderick Jones.

The talented lineman arrived in Chicago for a meeting with the Bears on Tuesday according to a report by NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Jones has been one of the most highly regarded tackles in the 2023 NFL Draft class and for good reason.

Jones redshirted in 2020 after injuring his leg, but he played left tackle during the past two seasons with the back-to-back national champs.

He was only a starter in his final season in 2022, but in 26 games played over the past two seasons, he’s allowed just 17 total pressures. He didn’t allow a single sack in 2022, which is a testament to his pass-blocking ability.

Jones may not be as experienced as some of the other offensive tackles in this class, but his raw strength and power should appeal to NFL coaches who are looking to work with him.

He's an impressive athlete, posting a 93rd percentile 40-yard dash and good numbers in most other drills.

When watching Jones on tape, his athleticism and strength are evident. He's able to hold his ground against power rushers and can move quickly to cut-off speed rushers.

However, his lack of experience sometimes shows up on tape, and he can be caught off guard by stunts or twists.

Despite this, Jones has a high ceiling and could develop into a dominant tackle at the NFL level.

The Bears are in need of more reliable offensive linemen to protect their quarterback and open up running lanes for their backs, and Jones could be just the player they're looking for.
