Vegas odds on Bears-Buccaneers

by - Correspondent -

Chicago is coming into this game dropping their first game of the season, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a 20-17 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Thus, Tampa Bay is a 2.5-point favorite in this contest, according to DraftKings.

The Bears are incredibly inconsistent on the field. But in betting, they are consistent about one thing - they always give you the over. In the season opener, their defense allowed 38 points, making it quite easy to reach the over. Given that starting cornerback Kyler Gordon was just placed on injured reserve, and the defense will be going against a high-caliber receiver duo in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin with the Buccaneers, it is safe to say that they will probably allow a lot of points once again and make the over of 40.5 points per DraftKings.

For individual players, quarterback Justin Fields is still your best bet for the Bears. Last year, Fields basically encompassed all of the offensive productivity. The season opener against the Green Bay Packers made it appear that this will be the case this season as well.

So, it seems likely that Fields is going to score a touchdown at some point in the game. This is especially true, given the Buccaneers rush defense. Tampa Bay was in the middle last season, ranked No. 15, averaging about 120.7 rushing yards per game. The Minnesota Vikings may have only had 41 rushing yards against them last week, but they do not have as strong of a running back room as Chicago, and Fields is much more of a rushing threat than quarterback Kirk Cousins, who also fumbled the ball twice in that opener.

If you want to take a little more of a gamble, running back, Roschon Johnson is another player you could bet on to score a touchdown at some point in this game.

First, he did against the Packers. Second, Johnson seemed to provide a little bit of a spark in the offense in that season opener. That may not reflect on the stat sheet, as Fields once again led the team in rushing yards, but Johnson may see some increased action in this game that could land him in the endzone at some point in the game.

Still, this is more of a gamble given his odds of scoring a touchdown during the game, according to DraftKings, is +450 while Fields has odds of +150.
