Cubs Media Relations -

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Chicago Cubs today selected right-handed pitcher Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Iowa. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Julian Merryweather has been designated for assignment. Kriske will wear uniform #57.

Kriske, 31, has pitched to a 2-0 record with a 3.38 ERA (7 ER/18.2 IP), 28 strikeouts, compared to eight walks, a 1.13 WHIP and a .191 opponent batting average in 13 games with the I-Cubs this season. His 28 strikeouts are the second most among Iowa pitchers in relief outings. Kriske has held the opponents scoreless in each of the last five games, allowing just one hit in that span.

The Scottsdale, Ariz., native was signed by the Cubs to a minor league contract on November 22, 2024. He is 2-1 with a 11.22 ERA (27 ER/21.2 IP) in 20 career major league games and last pitched in the majors in 2023 with Kansas City. Kriske was selected by the Yankees in the sixth round of the 2016 draft and made his major league debut on July 29, 2020.

Merryweather, 33, is 0-1 with a 5.79 ERA (12 ER/18.2 IP) and a 1.82 WHIP in 21 games, all in relief, with the Cubs this season.

The Cubs play the Cincinnati Reds today at 3:10 p.m. CT at Great American Ball Park in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 the Score and, in Spanish, on WRTO 1200 AM.
