Justin Fields: Thankful for Bears trade to Steelers |
It was a tough few months this past offseason as the Chicago Bears tried to figure how to upgrade their quarterback position as they eventually dealt away quarterback
Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Bears eventually traded him away for just a conditional Day 3 pick, but they wanted to do right by the young signal-caller. Fields spoke to the media this week and said he appreciates the way the Bears' general manager handled the situation with him. “Shoutout to Poles,” Fields said to the media. “We communicated to him through my agent, and I told him where I wanted to be and this was the place I wanted to be. So he honored that, and I appreciate him for that and glad he was able to put me in a spot where I wanted to be at.” In 2023 with the Bears, Fields threw for 2,562 yards with 16 passing touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Fields will now battle veteran Russell Wilson at the QB position for the Steelers for playing time. "To be honest, I'm taking it day by day," Fields said. "I'm definitely competing. I think Russ knows that. We're competing against each other every day. Him being out there, for me, that helps me get better, us pushing each other. I mean, I definitely don't have the mindset of me just sitting all year. I'm coming in every day and giving it all I've got and pushing him to be his best and he's pushing me to be my best each and every day."
