Start’em or Sit’em in Fantasy Football: Bears vs. Steelers

CHICAGO - It is coming down to the wire in fantasy football as the playoffs are fast approaching. Given the talent on the Chicago Bears’ roster, they could be the difference between winning or losing your matchup this week and facing the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sun. Nov. 23 (Noon / CBS) is not the ideal matchup.

Caleb Williams - Sit

The reason to sit Williams actually has nothing to do with the matchup. Playing Pittsburgh has not been bad for opposing quarterbacks from a fantasy perspective. However, the Steelers are tied for third-most sacks in the league, which does not help matters. But the real reason Williams needs to stay on the bench is because of his lack of fantasy production. He has yet to eclipse 300 passing yards in a game and has only had one passing touchdown in the past two games. His rushing upside is sporadic. Especially at this time in the fantasy season, now is not the time to take this kind of risk. Williams should stay on the bench.

Rome Odunze - Start in PPR Leagues

If you are in a points per reception (PPR) league, wide receiver Rome Odunze may get you a lot of points. Pittsburgh has allowed the most receptions to wide receivers out of any team this season (152). However, they had not allowed too many touchdowns. Therefore, if you are not in a PPR league, Odunze may not provide you with much production. But, for those with Odunze in a PPR league, this is a great matchup.

D.J. Moore - Sit

If you are in a 12- or 14-team league, it is possible receiver D.J. Moore may still be in your lineup. If he is, put him on the bench. Moore’s numbers have been awful this season, with only 31 receptions for 421 yards and a touchdown. Statistically, he is on track to have his worst season since his rookie year in 2018. Even in leagues with a lot of teams, there has to be a better fantasy option on the waiver wire than Moore.

D’Andre Swift - Start in 10- or 12-Team Leagues

This may not be the best matchup for running back D’Andre Swift, but the Steelers are allowing 4.3 yards per carry to opposing running backs. They also allow a decent amount of receptions to running back,s as opposing backs average 4.4 receptions per game against them. Last week was the first week Swift did not have a reception, although that probably will not happen again. Therefore, Swift is a solid start in 10- or 12-team leagues.

The reason he may be worth putting on the bench in smaller leagues, or if you have a lot of depth at running back, is because of his lack of touchdowns. Rookie Kyle Monangai is the one who gets the ball in the red zone. That has cut into Swift’s fantasy production. There is enough depth in eight-team leagues to start another option with higher upside.

Cairo Santos - Start?

For the leagues where you still have a kicker, Cairo Santos is actually a viable fantasy option. He has attempted at least three field goals in four of the last five games and has yet to miss an extra point. This game could be a low-scoring affair, so Chicago may have to settle for more field goals, making it a prime time to start Santos if you are in need of a kicker.
